If you look at the long term the Auriga IRA is the better deal. You have (as of 2008) $2995 start up cost including the creation of your LLC and 2 hours consultation with an attorney. Of course this assume you want to have a lot of money after some time. No transaction costs because it operates just like your normal checking/savings account including debit card. $132 annual fee with no regards to portfolio value. For a real estate transaction this is a pretty good deal, especially if it is a high growth area. I went this route for my SD IRA after significant research and should have it completed within the month.

I looked at Equity Trust and Truely Self Directed. I break even on fees in about 4 years versus these guys plus I do not have to ask a Nanny every time I want to make a transaction. Since I am purchasing a beach front condo in Mexico that will be rented weekly/weekends I needed the checkbook control also.

Thanks scl for the comment. I did not include Sterling Trust because I didn't come across the company when doing my research. I should do a better research next time. :-)

I visited their website and update the article with my review of the service it provides and made a comparison to the service I am using (Sunwest Trust).
