When I left my job a year ago, a friend asked me ‘Joey, What is Your Purpose?’ I thought about it for a while but I couldn’t muster any answers. I was pretty embarrassed at the time. As a grown man, I should know what my life purpose is. But I didn’t. All I knew was I wanted to enjoy my life. But there has got to be more to life than merely enjoying it.
After one year of traveling, I came back to San Francisco in January with a renewed energy. I didn’t do anything productive for one year besides spending my life-saving away.
Some people do it differently. They took a long leave of absence, spent their money away, and when they were done with the fun, they went back to their old job so they can do it all over again. No way in hell I am doing that. Sure, going back to my old job helps me save up some money.
But I do NOT want to spend the rest of my life working for other people; where others get to tell me what I should do, when I should do it or when I can go on vacation. I don’t want my life to be dictated by routine after routine. It’s an endless cycle of perceived ’security-of-a-paycheck’ that I am not prepared to trade my life for.
After spending some times thinking about it, I finally realized what I want out of my life is something I have been doing this past year. Not the full extent yet but it’s getting there.
1. I want to have a good physical health.
I am pretty healthy although I could be healthier so for now check.
2. I want to be able to do whatever I want do whenever I want to do it.
I was traveling a whole lot this past year, I am learning Spanish, I am spending more time doing what I like to do so check.
3. I want to be financially free.
I am not quite there yet but quitting my job was the first step. The second step is finding ways to generate multiple income streams that I can live on comfortably. And the third step is giving back to those who are less fortunate.
Those three are my goals. And that will lead me back to …
